I started the day off with a classic yet enormous German breakfast. The spread was in honor of Hannes' mom's birthday, which is today. When we woke up there was a gaggle of ladies from town at the house, laughing and singing and eating breakfast. What's on the table in front of me is what they DIDN'T eat.
Later in the day, in Baden Baden, I had to try German bubble tea. The verdict: tea was good, bubbles were not. They didn't have the classic tapioca - apparently it didn't sell well - so instead I had passion fruit bubbles that pop and have liquid in the middle. Not a fan.
In the evening there was a big family party for Hannes's mom - there were 18 people around one table! The menu was schnitzel, potato salad, green salad, and beet salad. Delicious. Hannes' family likes to laugh, drinks wine rather than beer, and sings when they get together. It's pretty cute. It makes me want to take them all to Asian-style karaoke.
Culture shock of the day: So much smoking! I'm really not used to it, and I'm really not a fan.
